Marianna Henriksson: Kimpoiluja
Vuosisatoja vanha musiikki soi tässä ajassa, yhtenä ajan kerrostumana.
The variation between tensions and discharges of sounds, the different variations between rising and falling lines, the different pulsations of sounds, are all causes for the different forces which magnetically attract the heart. - -
With these movements, the spirit is sometimes squeezed together, then it loosens again, relaxes and tenses up alternately.
(Athanasius Kircher, 1650)
In the performance of harpsichordist Marianna Henriksson, music from the 17th century and new music flow together. Marianna plays and talks about centuries-old theories in which music binds the human body to the universe: Boethius’ concept of musica mundana / musica humana / musica instrumentalis and the ability of music to move body fluids and life spirits. The performance invites you to experience the vibration of the harpsichord's sound up close. Centuries-old music plays in this moment - one sheet among myriad layers of time. The passage of time is movement, of which music is one - it is not absolute but oscillates and permeates bodies.
The performance includes music e.g. by Frescobaldi, Rossi, D'Anglebert and Virtaperko.
The performance is part of the Solar Noon group exhibition organised in Taattisten tila 19.7.–19.8. The exhibition is open Wed-Sun 11–18.
